Owing over $250,000 to the IRS can be daunting, but at David Coffin PLLC, our attorneys strive for the best resolution possible for each client. We take a team approach with our clients, who often are struggling to make ends meet. Recently, one of our clients was facing such a situation. We submitted an Offer in Compromise to settle his debt, but as we waited for the IRS to review it, we encountered an issue that appeared to have derailed the Offer. Our client was not in current compliance, as he had failed to make his estimated tax payments, which is an IRS requirement while an Offer in Compromise is pending. The IRS closed and returned the Offer, but our attorneys did not give up. We argued our position with the Offer in Compromise specialist, but to no avail. However, after elevating the issue to an Offer in Compromise manager, the Offer was successfully reopened, and we prevailed. The IRS eventually agreed to an offer of $19,067 to settle the entire $250,000 of taxes owed. When told, the client literally started yelling for joy on the phone. We take great pride in delivering challenging cases across the finish line, even when the odds are heavily stacked against our clients.
